In this brief lecture, which was presented at Mindvention 2021, Jheff shares one routine from his book, Parimental, a book which explores Martin Gardners' parity principle. In this routine, which is quite suitable for performing virtually, a participant plays the part of a student late for the bus from a field trip to the Science and Industry Museum. A grid of exhibits is displayed on the screen in three rows of three. The participant picks any exhibit to represent the last place he or she was seen. Then the participant thinks of any number while the performer places a folded piece of paper into the envelope. The participant then names that number and, starting from the named exhibit, moves that number of spaces. The performer takes out the paper, unfolds it, and the name of the landed on exhibit is on the paper.

This effect is fully customizable and any suitable theme can be used.

This 28-page PDF contains four chapters from the book:
EXHIBITS OF THE MIND - THE GRID VERSION
This is the effect discussed in the Mindvention lecture.

EXHIBITS OF THE MIND
This is the original version which is a close-up effect involving business cards. The plot is essentially the same, except that the revelation is revealed to be on a business card in the performer's pocket, plus a few other subtleties that make it different.

THE PARITY PRINCIPLE
The remaining two chapters in this preview explain the parity principle and the original effect that Martin Gardner presented in the August 1960 issue of Scientific American.
